Everywhere I turn, Buddhist philosophy and teachings are calling me. Through books I’m reading, podcasts I’m listening to, and the heroes I encounter. My trip to Upaya Zen Center in Santa Fe in April opened my eyes to the vastness of the learning to be explored.
I’m also aware of how much Buddhism has impacted my coaching practice, even though I wasn’t fully aware of the explicit connections. For instance, I emphasize the concept of equanimity with clients who struggle to control their emotions (see my blog post about how to have a good day below).
It may seem ironic that I’m writing about death as we are moving into Spring. In fact, the theme running through this newsletter is rebirth. I’m writing this after embarking on a yearlong course, Trauma-Informed Coaching and Consulting, that feels like the start of a transformative journey - more to be written as I continue to integrate!

Read MoreI am falling forward for sure, and that’s a good thing! My book, Coach Yourself, was published in September and I’ve seen lots of forward momentum since then…podcast interviews, launch events, book sales and reviews.
My editor Laura said it well, “It is my pleasure to write and my job to promote.” But this “job” has been eased by the incredible support from my community of friends, colleagues, and well-wishers. More than ever, I recognize that individual success is a team sport.
Writing my first book, Coach Yourself was easy. Honestly. Because the entire process felt authentic, aligned with my values, and allowed me to share my messages with a wider audience.
I’m not suggesting that I wasn’t scared and overwhelmed at times (particularly as someone with an adult diagnosis of ADHD) but the challenges diminished as I focused on delivering value (I hope) for readers looking to move ahead both professionally and personally. We are all works in progress and this book is a companion on that journey.
By day I am a practical, results-focused executive coach. I easily talk business, strategy, leadership and management best practices. But the core of my work is awakening people to their own transformational change, and then helping guide them on that journey. So much of what we believe about our strengths and weaknesses is imprinted without us realizing it.
