Happiness In The Workplace Is Serious: Why Leaders Need To Respond
I was fortunate enough to recently attend the Leadership and Happiness Symposium at Harvard’s Kennedy School. Happiness was not on the radar of many researchers 25 years ago, and I am thrilled that it is now recognized as a serious research topic. We have all heard that loneliness is now considered an epidemic by the U.S. surgeon general, and a whopping 85% of employees are unhappy with their work, according to Gallup. The research is showing that our sense of well-being has an enormous impact on our health, education, work-life balance and relationships in general. Clearly, happiness is a serious subject, and I want to talk specifically about why leaders need to improve happiness in the workplace.
